2019 is one of the worst years in NYPD history. The Department has survived corruption, riots, blackouts, layoffs, scandals, lawsuits, Michael Dowd, and September 11. Currently, the Department is a mess. Low retention, low recruitment numbers, low pay, no contract, the abolishment of Stop and Frisk, (a Supreme Court approved mode of police procedures), non-punishment of minor crimes such as fare beating, and possession of marijuana. Add the Black Lives Movement, Eric Garner, Race Pimps such as Al Sharpton, and mainstream media hostility towards cops. Then add the lunatics wielding hatchets, bums ganging up on Transit cops, and trucks running down pedestrians. This past week, the street shit have now decided it would be fun to throw water on New York’s Finest. There are videos of cops getting buckets of water thrown on them as well as the bucket! In one instance the cops just look defeated. We also have a mope tell two Transit Cops to suck his dick on a subway. The cops did nothing. In the same neighborhood in Brooklyn where two cops were doused with water, a block party became a war zone as 12 people were shot, one fatally. That’s still not the worst. Mayor Bill de Blasio who has a bi-racial son told the world that he told his son to be careful around police officers because of his skin color! de Blasio has been responsible for allowing the homeless to run wild, many of whom have mental health or substance abuse issues. De Blasio also instructed the police department not to cooperate with ICE for mass deportations, despite the fact it is illegal to be in the country without permission, and deported illegals will reduce school overcrowding, jail overcrowding, reduce low income housing demand and the demands on social services. The anti-police mentality of the city and nation has led to the murder of 6 officers during the de Blasio Administration; Wenjian Liu, Rafael Ramos, Brian Moore, Randolph Holder, Paul Tuozzolo, and Miosotis Familia. And we are still not done. This year alone, within two months, 5 cops committed suicide. These were not cops caught in a corruption scandal, or some rookie who can’t hack it, or someone looking to avoid jail for sex crimes. These were people from relatively new cops, to seasoned veterans to a First Grade Detective to a Deputy Chief! All this while de Blasio is touting the crime statistics is going down. Anyone who has seen “The Wire” or knows anything about statistics knows that the brass is “Juking the stats.” Commanders have to become mathematicians instead of commanders to make the stats look good, to make the bosses look good and their job safe.
The New York Police Department is in crisis mode. It very easy to blame de Blasio. He is the chief executive of the City of New York, and led the NYPD and the NYCDOC right into the toilet. He should resign. He needs to resign. But he won’t. He is running for US president because he needs a job by 2021. However, what he can do is fire his Police Commissioner, James P. O’Neill. Under Commissioner O’Neill, we have had cops with buckets of water thrown on them, a Detective killed by friendly fire, and 7 suicides! Count them; seven! On June 6th of this year O’Neill apologized for the Stonewall Riots, when the NYPD raided the Stonewall Inn because of the gay clientele. I don’t why O’Neill apologized? He was only 11 years old at the time. Meanwhile, Detective First Grade Joe Calabrese was found dead on that same day. Zero response from the Commish. Seven fucking suicides and this man is still the Commissioner!? Being a police officer is stressful not only at work but at home. The wife, husband, girlfriend, boyfriend does not understand about working nights, weekends, holidays, while everyone is enjoying whatever holiday weekend. Add to the fact last minute arrests, leading to a trip to Central Booking (God forbid you have to go to Bronx Central Booking on the weekends), talking to the Prosecuting attorney’s, going to traffic court, going to mandatory training, going to the range, and not being able to leave work because your family member has a fake crisis. Psych services have been failing cops for decades now. The purpose of Psych services is to find a reason to take your job. Every department has someone to talk about the stresses of the job. But mention anything about thinking doing something you shouldn’t do, and you are done, because you become a liability.
As for the attacks on the cops, the NYPD and Commissioner O’Neill has done next to nothing. Well, right after O’Neill took office, Sgt Hugh Barry shot and killed a woman in self-defense in the Bronx. An overzealous cop hating Bronx DA charged Barry with murder and O’Neill threw Sgt Barry under the bus. O’Neill was quoted as saying “We failed” when talking about the fatal shooting. You certainly failed your cops. What’s really funny is that in the promotional exam for Sergeant, there is a question that says if a person is wielding a bat, the officer can use deadly physical force against the person, (gun) of course the answer is true! Fast forward from Sgt Barry to the hatchet attacks, against cops, bums attacking cops, perps shooting at cops in Washington Heights, mopes walking up to the cops when placing someone in custody, to now water thrown on cops.
The Police Academy failed the cops due to lack of defensive tactics training. It was not the ass kicking class I thought it would be when I went, I could imagine what is taught now. Instead they get more diversity training and community policing. The end result is the “community” i.e. the ghetto throwing water on the cops, and the cops doing nothing. The leadership filed the cops by not backing them up. Ditto for the Patrol Guide and the top brass that look to burn any cop for doing their job and being pro active.
The NYPD have the best cops in the world, serving the greatest city in the world. But they are defeated, demoralized, and dumbfounded. They need a major change and we all know that it starts at the top; that’s why O’Neill must go!
