One year ago today, Mother Stanton was called home. When we got the sad news, my brother said she’s in a better place. She certainly is. Last week Charlie LeDuff’s mother was called home. Charlie did a touching tribute to her better than anyone else. My mother had a lot in common with Charlie’s mother.
And to make things worse Mike Rakebrandt’s mother was also called home only a few months ago.
There’s still not a day that I still don’t think about her. She has been there through thick and thin time and time again. She taught me so much and gave me so much. She made sure bills were paid, laundry was done, kids were fed, homework was done and the kids made it to hockey, figure skating, baseball, soccer, softball and football. With three small kids she decided to join the family and become a nurse!
Even though she’s not with us I am still lucky. My mother was with me 99% of my life. And two days before she passed, I was able to see her one last time and I wanted to tell her two very important things. The first was a very private family matter which I was very happy to tell mom and the second and last thing I said to her was “I love you.” I knew when she got up there, she met family members she hasn’t seen in a while and finally got to meet John Lennon and George Harrison.
But those of you who still have family with us, be sure to tell them you love them, and see them. Until we meet again.
