Sonnie’s Corner is not for whites

Sirius XM has a conservative channel call The Patriot Channel. On the weekend there is a hostess named Sonnie Johnson. If she’s conservative, count me out! She preaches capitalism, and that’s about it. Every week she blames white people for something. White people need to stop saying black people should do this or that. White people do a poor job reaching out to the black community to join the GOP. I’m not making this up. Entertaining she is not. Talk about tokens. David Webb is also a black conservative on The Patriot Channel. Webb is so conservative, that HE was called a white supremacist! No shit.

This last week took the cake. She berated so-called conservative media for putting out a black female conservative face every couple of years so conservatives can say black females are conservative. She mentions Stacy Dash, that horrible Amarosa lady from Trump’s old tv show ( we both agree she is a piece of work) and Candice Owens. It sounds to me that Sonnie is jealous. All above mentioned is easy on the eyes. And believe it or not so is Ms. Johnson. I detect a little jealously. Sonnie did not mention Diamond and Silk, who are closer to my age than Sonnie, or the hundreds of females of color posting videos for the #WalkAway movement.

Then she spoke about the police. Ladies and gentlemen, we all know the American lawman is under attack. Both figuratively and literally. Believe me, myself, Walter, Mike Garren, Mike Dowd, and the rest of the family would rather talk shit to each other and crack jokes. But that’s not the case. But ol’ Sonnie had to bring up the fact that departments such as Baltimore and Philadelphia have issues with innocent people’s civil rights. Trust me, I have the same issues too, but to talk shit about the Philly PD when 6, count ’em SIX officers were shot and two others were pinned down in a stand off AND the street shit in the same neighborhood is ganging up on the cops while the standoff is ongoing!? In the SAME FUCKING WEEK! Meanwhile Baltimore still dangerous than ever!? Ditto with Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis, and now New York. Sonnie; please!

    1. I am Cuban.
I am ad conservative as they come.
And I listen to het and today I tuned her out.
      I felt offended.
I would never tell a black person they are not black.
My goodness is it obvious they are black.
I, and many other conservatives don’t speak like what she was depicting.

What I do tell my daughter and blacks.

We are Americans, not African American, my daughter is American, not Cuban American.
She is in the US Armed forces and I am so proud of her.

We became American when we came here.

Come on blacks, do not allow your History to be watered down like that.
Your history is American history, good or bad.
This beautiful country has and is continuous lis is making strides to afford equality of opportunities for everyone

    2. I have tried to listen to Sonnie’s show. She has an annoying timber to her voice and yells a lot. Ditto for David Webb with the annoying voice and yelling. I cannot bear to listen to either one. Webb reminds me of Rush Limbaugh who also had an annoying voice and personality. Webb is like Rush in that unless a caller to his show is in complete agreement and sucks up to him, they are immediately insulted and cut off. I am a hard core right winger who is fed up with most all of the media. Including the so called conservative shows. It was occasionally fun to hear Rush berate some of his more rabid callers, but Rush wasn’t always right about everything, as he seemed to believe.

  2. I don’t think you guys are taking the time to listen, just responding with a knee-jerk reaction. I think she is speaking against top-down conservativism, which is really not conservativism at all. I did not hear what she said about police brutality, but I think she is just being frank that, from her life experience, it seems to be a very real thing. I think she is speaking from a conservative viewpoint, but part of that viewpoint is an objection to police and government overstepping their involvement in our personal lives. The left wants greater and greater involvement in how we raise our children, what color we paint our houses (I used to live in an historic district), and what kinds of cars we drive (inspection, insurance, seatbelts, emissions, $, $, $. It costs at least $3000 just to get on the road to go to work, which is a lot to poor people). I work in the criminal justice system, and I understand that criminals and drug addicts do some very bad things. But I also understand that, today, it is essentially against the law to be poor. Furthermore, when you are poor, you cannot afford proper defense attorneys, and you may not be, like me, verbal enough to make a lying cop leave the courtroom with his tail between his legs! So, my guess is that she was standing up for the underdog, the downtrodden, but in a get-the-government-out-of-my-personal-business way. Furthermore, the Never-Trump folks especially are intent on pushing fiscally and hawkishly conservative policies, but they do not deliver on social issues. Trump has delivered on social issues, whether or not he is a real social conservative. I think Sonnie’s point is that even Trump has been a top-down conservative regarding the black community. He loves to talk about black unemployment and parade yes-woman people of color like Amarosa, but does he really listen? Just like the country club Republicans did not take Huckabee or Santorum seriously, Trump has not really taken the black vote seriously. He has tried, and I’ll give him credit for that. But his message does not ring true, and that’s why it’s not winning more hearts. I love Trump. I even love law enforcement. But it is time to stop leading from the top-down and start listening to the people–not the people who have been swindled by con-men like Al Sharpton, but intelligent voices like Sonnie who speak from their own experience.

    1. Back in the days of slavery, the majority of slave owners were Democrats. If Sonnie, or anybody really, could/would get the word out and make voters in the black community aware of this fact, maybe this would convince a lot of them to change parties and vote Republican/Conservative.

      1. They know that. The problem is that the Republican party is not talking to them these days, except to say “Democrats WERE the slave-owners!” and that’s about it. Why the hell should black people vote for someone who just wants to point the finger at someone else. What Sonnie is saying is conservatives need to speak to, get to know, get involved in, be a part of the black community. I myself have often wondered what the problem is. Conservatives believe in equal opportunity for everyone regardless, but that message is not resonating with the black community. And I truly believe that what she said on her show recently is right. We’re not going to accomplish this top-down. The only way the black community is going to take conservatives/Republicans seriously is if we actually get into their communities and SHOW THEM that we understand what they’re going through and that we CARE… It’s not up to TRUMP, it’s not up to CONGRESS… It’s not even up to GOVERNORS or STATE LEGISLATURES. It’s not up to County or City governments… ITS UP TO INDIVIDUAL CONSERVATIVES TO GET INTO THE COMMUNITIES AND BE PART OF THE SOLUTION!!

      2. Do a simple internet search and read about the party values from back in the day that you are referencing. They are not the same anymore. To reference a “label” ( democrat/republican) you gave to contextualize it. Telling done one to become a current day republican because president Lincoln was labeled “republican” removes the context. Please educate yourself. It’s in your best interest to be informed not confused. Good luck!

    2. Conservatives and America are not about your color or your ethnicity. If race is how you view the world you will always have problems. It is an us vs them mindset which is calibrated to look past good and opportunities only noticing bad. You can do that but it wont get you anywhere but backwards. Encouraging that mindset in others does the same to them. We are greater than that but only if we choose to be. We can also decide that what we want more than developing ourselves is the power of social acceptance. Thats much easier to get. Misery loves company and the top of the heap of miserable people is a pretty cushy place to be.
I think Sonnies victims outlook sounds like she’s pretty well ensconsed there.

      1. Realism is to conservatism as idealism is to liberalism. Your espousal of a colorblind mentality is idealism. Of course, the victim mentality is wrong, but that’s not what Sonnie is about. Just pretending like problems don’t exist doesn’t make them go away.

  3. “Divide and rule
Divide and rule, or divide and conquer, in politics and sociology is gaining and maintaining power by breaking up larger concentrations of power into pieces that individually have less power than the one implementing the strategy”.
We are all Americans who have the power to control our destiny, and we can only to that as a united people.

      1. And you wonder why, traditionally, Republicans can’t carry much more than 5% of the black vote! Maybe it’s time Republicans got their country club olives out of their ears and listened. The Democrats are taking blacks for granted, and they have fifty plus years of failed policies. What’s new today is that Republicans are starting to talk about bottom up conservatism, starting at the community level. It’s not the fiscal conservatism of Goldwater. Nor is it welfare. But it’s more local, less centrally regulated, and more small business than big business.

    1. The truth hurts. We do need to understand stuff. We don’t live where they live. We don’t KNOW what they go through! I’m not into all this “white privilege” bullshit but do we really know where they’re coming from, what their concerns are? NO. And I’m just as guilty! But the truth is we need to get into the gettos, across the tracks, poverty and crime stricken areas and show ourselves to be the caring people we want them to know us as! Paying taxes into programs hasn’t been doing it and will never do it. The Dems think throwing money at the problems will make them go away. They’re wrong! But how are we any more right if we just spout “America is the land of OPPORTUNITY!” Easy for us to say, not so easy for us to get into where they live and find out how to help them overcome their own challenges in a way that they understand and can relate to.

  5. Wrong Bernie. I don’t understand why Sonnie has a show on Patriot Radio. I’ve listened to her for a long time trying to understand and really trying to embrace her perspective, a process that can only be described as painful. That’s at least for me primarily due to her style of constantly yelling at and berating her audience. I figured there was a reason she has a show using such a valuable time slot on a primary outlet of conservative thought. I probably wasn’t getting it and just needed to really understand her better. However, the more I understood, the less I agreed. The title of the original post should read, “Sonnie’s Corner is not for Conservatives” instead, because it isn’t. Her lecturing, condescension, mocking, and grating voice would all be acceptable if she was adding something valuable to the discussion of conservatism among minorities, but that is not the case.

    1. I love David Webb, Stacy Washington, and Candice Owens, but if I didn’t know and they didn’t tell me, I’d think they were white. David Webb even had a commentator accuse him of white privilege, and he politely informed her he was black. Hilarious. That’s their authenticity, but the problem is they always get accused of being Jim Crow. Their message tends to get lost on other black Americans. Maybe the problem is that Sonnie’s message isn’t intended for white folks, except to say that maybe we should have some respect for cultural differences. Not to knock Candice Owens, but if Sonnie were to talk like that, she wouldn’t be real. If the main goal is to attract other blacks to conservatism, my sense is she will succeed far more than some of her more polished peers.

  6. A bit late to this conversation but I do try and listen to Sonnie and for the most part, she turns me off. I keep hearing her say that Republicans need to get out more and connect with the Black Community but if we’re already being prejudged as country club (I am white and only worked at a CC in college) Republicans than why bother? Also, Lawrence O’Donnell (Fox News) has been on her show and his views on the Breonna Taylor shooting isn’t what you’ll hear from him on Fox. And then earlier this year she was commenting about Hispanics and a woman called from a border town. Of course, Sonnie piped off without a clue of being Hispanic or white and living in a border town.

  7. She using a yelling style of speaking as if she is delivering a sermon in a black-Baptist church.
Sanctimonious, screeching and shouted preaching. With AAVE. Similar to Al Sharpton’s delivery style on his show. She isn’t bright. I can’t imagine how she has a show other than for racial diversity.
