Last Saturday morning Customs and Border Patrol (CPB) went looking for an illegal alien for deportation in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Alex Pretti, 37 was at the scene. Pretti was in the middle of the street at the beginning of the video. A third person, presumably a woman got into the Border Patrol Officer’s face. Pretti saw the confrontation and stepped in to get involved, then other members of the CBP got involved. At the 39 second mark of this video you can see Pretti bend over and reach into his waistband on his right side. To law enforcement this is a clue to law enforcement that a person may have a weapon. Pretti did indeed have a pistol on him, which he had a permit to carry. As the CBP agents are struggling with Pretti, someone sees the weapon and now the race is on to stop Pretti from doing whatever his intention was. During the struggle, a CBP Officer was able to retrieve the weapon while one or more agents discharged their weapons. Pretti died from his injuries.
As Walter Yurkiw said, police work is “messy.” It’s not like “Law and Order” or Columbo where the officer tells a person that they are under arrest and to turn around, put their hands behind their back. People don’t want to go to jail. People will run from the police or will fight the police. Trust us. We know.
As for the press conferences from the head of the local CPB Office Greg Bovino to Mayor Frey and Governor Walz are completely different.
