Diversity kills again!

With the recent mass shooting on the campus of Brown University, there were press conferences featuring the Mayor of Providence, RI, the Chief of Police, the Governor and a host of other people. But one person was “awfully quiet” as Dave Chappelle said on a comedy special. Rodney Chatman; Chief of the Brown University Police Department. And unlike some colleges, Brown University are duly sworn peace officers in Rhode Island. And instead of ensuring audible alarms, and other security precautions, Chief Chatman was more concerned about trashing other cops!

As a leader apparently Chief Chatman is not the best. Not by a long shot. Earlier this year members of the union representatives voted no confidence for a toxic workplace, and an atmosphere of fear. University Police have a “cover-up culture” where Brown University PD were reluctant to contact the Providence Police Department in reporting crimes.

Instead of protecting the people and property of Brown University Chief Chatman made trashing cops his top priority! Chatman wanted other departments to replace photos of armed officers with images showcasing ‘compassion and engagement with the community that alleviates the anxiety of our presence.’ Yeah, show cops with teddy bears instead of pictures of cops taking people off the street. That will put confidence in the citizens that they are safe, make criminals think twice and boost recruitment. And of course he’s all about the DEI. According to the Daily Mail:

‘You can’t effectively police a community you’re not part of.”

Two students are dead partly because of the incompetence of Rodney Chatman. It’s unknown if Chatman will be held accountable. But, if he is fired from Brown University, he can go to another university and earn $250,000!

F@#$% Mount Vernon, NY

A 19 year Mount Vernon, NY police officer is being fired because he can’t work! Officer Derek Williams is being fired because he has kidney failure! Williams has to go to dialysis seven days a week! He can perform light duty, but the city won’t let him do light duty!

Here’s the response from the city:

The officer returned to full duty in April 2020, went out again in April 2023, and has not returned since.

Under the PBA contract, donated sick leave for catastrophic illness or injury has been available since October 2023 and remains available.

The Commissioner’s Office provided the maximum 30 days permitted under the City Charter, and PBA members donated an additional 15 days. The officer has not accrued sufficient service time to qualify for full retirement benefits, which would not occur until 2030, not within six months as has been alleged.

Any determination regarding retirement or disability is made solely by the New York State and Local Retirement System, not the City.

Time spent on unpaid leave does not count toward service credit under state law.New York State Civil Service Law 73 permits separation after one year of inability to perform essential duties.

The City delayed action due to limited medical information, a reasonable expectation of recovery, and the absence of a Line of Duty Injury application.

Light duty is not automatic and is limited to officers approved under General Municipal Law 207-c. There is no law or policy that allows the City to assign light duty without an approved 207-c application.Since April 2023, the City has not received any applications for retirement, light duty or accommodation, medical leave of absence, FMLA, workers’ compensation, or 207-c that would change the legal status of this separation.

The City followed the required process, provided additional sick leave and extensions, and acted responsibly. Failure to complete required paperwork is not a failure of the City.

Compassion and accountability are not mutually exclusive. The City remains open to working within the boundaries of the law, through the officer’s legal representation, toward the best possible outcome.

In other words Officer Williams; go to hell! I can’t believe Mount Vernon can’t make him a “House Mouse,” put him in the academy, training, school safety, traffic, records something! Trust us, Mount Vernon is not jurisdiction that is not run like a well-oiled machine! They can find a place so Mr. Williams can retire and live out his golden years!

UPDATE: The City of Mount Vernon has delayed the termination date for six months! Which means Officer Williams will be thrown out on his ass by the City of Mount Vernon in nice weather!
