This year’s Los Angeles Marathon had a shortcut for those runners “having a tough day.” At the 18 mile mark a runner who did not or could not complete the 26.2-mile run could take a short cut at the 18-mile mark and still finish with a medal and have their time recorded.
This is what you get with a “participation trophy” culture. If you can’t finish the race, you can’t finish the race. That should give you motivation to work harder to finish. Hopefully mentality like this will never make it into our selection and training of our special forces operators. Imagine during Hell Week if a sailor wants to take a short cut to finish the week!?
