This accomplishment was bittersweet for Team USA as they always fall short to Canada in various hockey events. Despite US and Canadian players in the NHL, there is bad blood between the US and Canada in terms of hockey. This achievement was extra special as teammate Johnny Gaudreau was killed by a drink driver in 2024. The team honored their fallen comrade by bringing out his jersey for the medal ceremony and bringing out his children for the medal ceremony. Johnny is up there with tears of both joy and sadness as he is proud of his teammates for their accomplishments and for remembering him. We’re sure Gaudreau would love to be there with his kids.
This event shows what’s right with sports. Team works their ass off to win. They honor a fallen teammate by not only bringing out his jersey but bringing out his children. A few weeks ago we were subjected to the spectacle known as Super Bowl 60 with Bad Bunny calling out every nation, except ours!
The quote from Huges reminded me of the movie “Miracle” where 1980 Team USA coach Herb Brooks (played by Kurt Russell) said one of the most iconic lines in movie history:
