California hates winners!

Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl Champion quarterback Sam Darnold earned a bonus of $178,000 for his Super Bowl win! But; the State of California is assessing an income tax of $249,000! That’s just for the days he was in California for the Super Bowl (Feb 1-Feb 8). California as well as many other states charge something called the “jock tax.” This tax charges athletes from teams from out of state a tax for working in that state! Darnold is employed in Washington but has to pay California tax!

This is nothing but a money grab! These major league teams already generate so much money for the states: sales tax on tickets, concessions, souvenirs, hotels, transportation as well as income tax from the players on the home team, front office and arena/stadium staff! And your state gets to host the Super Bowl!? Major league sports should send a message to these states that tax visiting athletes. No Super Bowls, no All Star games, no Winter Classic in your state until the “jock tax” is lifted! And if a league looks to expand, forbid all “jock tax” states in consideration until the tax is lifted.
