A Scoop Thanksgiving

By: Scoop Stanton

Well, you are going to believe this one because its me! I get home from work Wednesday night and was enjoying some yogurt with raspberries. I got a text from my friend Gracie. It turns out her ADD was fighting her OCD and her man was not having it. She wanted a ride to her house. She was at 816 Potomac Ave Southeast Washington, DC! I told Gracie to get her stuff together and be ready. Gracie has more stuff than a family of refugees! I pull up and I’m loading her stuff in the car! Look at the above picture. The trunk is full and so is the backseat! Gracie has her final duffle bag and I shut the trunk. Then…..

A dark sedan pulls up next to my car. Mind you the engine is running and were 20 seconds from leaving. A young man hopped out of the passenger seat and into the driver’s seat of my car! I walked up the door and told the young man to step out of the car. He was wearing a hoodie and a mask! My car is 10 years old with 182,000 miles and needs 4 tires. I have full coverage. I stepped away from the car and off it went! I called 911 and Gracie called Uber! I filed a report and called my insurance company! Ugh! Luckily I was able to get a Lyft home!

I go to work and was happy. Overtime! I also got an invite to a Thanksgiving dinner after work from Brie, at someone else’s place. I’m still there. I get a call at work, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) found my car. Undamaged! I just had to pick it up at a lot! Hot dog! At quitting time one of my work wives is giving me a ride over to the place. I had no clue who’s house it was! It was the home of one of Ed and Dani’s friends! I told Brie I was here and Brie told me to bring in the “wife.” And the poor girl agreed to come in. I love the fact that my work life is intertwining with my social life. Hell, Danila has an open invite to any work function already! I get in and there is food everywhere! I bummed out because I already ate! I did kill two pieces of Boston Cream Pie! And I was “overserved” because it was “self service,” And I got hold of the remote control! These poor people got the hear The Doors and “75 Radio!” They heard me in stereo! As I was polluting their ears at least they got to see a beautiful pic of Danila!

These too kind people let me sleep it off at their house and another house guest got to hear me snore! Now to pick up the DB5. I got a Lyft to Northeast DC right off I-295. It was a raggedy lot with a gate. The police told me it was a 24 hour lot. I called the number and he said they opened at 10. It was 9:30. I got some much-needed caffeine from the previous activities! I returned and it was going to cost me $645 to get my car! Cash only! I had to go the gas station next door and get the money! The little window for the cash dispenser was opened and it looked like a strip club for a second! I got my car, got some gas. Went home got some sleep, cleaned out the car and dropped off Gracie’s stuff, spent time with my kids and went to bed!

But; I can say with all this I am truly thankful for everything. I’m thankful I got my car back. I’m thankful for the people I work with. I’m thankful for all the wonderful people I met and get to hang with on Thanksgiving. I’m also thankful I got my bottle of Jack Daniel’s back! Yes, I’m missing time with my parents and other family members, but I also have another family I love and care for who do not have my last name!
