I always said that The Political Cesspool was always ahead of the curve. I wasn’t wrong this time as James Edwards wanted to celebrate 20 years of broadcasting 5 months early. We are that far ahead.
He held it in Greenville, SC which was a great choice as I could make it! Greenville is a beautiful city near Travelers Rest, SC home of Dixie Republic.
I saw people I haven’t seen since 2007 including Eddie “The Bombadier” Miller. I met some of the smartest and hardest working people this nation never heard of. These people spoke numerous languages and held numerous jobs and many were raising families. Friday actor Jack Antonio spoke and was telling his life story which was so New York City! Like Walter, he moved to Tennessee, because New York left him.
There were two Brazilian brothers that came up! I was like: “I know two Brazilians!” 75 Radio’s own Danila Rodrigues and the lovely Alessandra Griffitt! I thought it would be neat if the brothers would reach out to the ladies in proper Portuguese instead of Yankee Portuguese! And of course the ladies responded immediately! The brothers Eduardo and Henrique brought their liquor cabinet with them and I did my best to deplete it. But I did not run around with “green nipples” that Walter once accused me of having and Danila verified!

The next day it was speech day. 20 years ago it was all “give ’em hell!” Now unfortunately it’s “run like hell!” I sat at the head table with James and his awesome family. He is a lucky man! Of course we were texting each other. Mostly nonsense.
James gave us a 2 hour lunch break which I used to walk around downtown Greenville. I could see why Anthony Cumia moved here. Quiet, clean, no junkies, no panhandlers, none of the foolishness I’m used to seeing at home.

I thought this place was a gentleman’s club! They only served food.
Then it was showtime! James came out and was in his element. This is what he was born to do! I’ve been with the Cesspool for 19 years! I was still memorized how the kid did it. The idea was to have the shows crew come out the third hour. We’ll, this is the Cesspool! My 30 min dissertation was cut to less than 10! I came out and said: “Good evening Political Cesspool family. My name is Peter “Scoop” Stanton and I am the Washington, DC Correspondent for the Political Cesspool.” I wanted to make it about the Cesspool, not me or 75 Radio. It was James’ moment to shine. I wanted to hold the spotlight in his direction.
Then it was time for me to shine! James said that we had the room until 10. I told Eddie Miller to keep his set up on so I can use it in the meeting room James procured. Well, Eddie packed it up and now I’m scrambling! I’m grabbing my gear to leave and Sam told me we did not have to leave! The show is now starting and I’m calling in and Sam is setting up my gear! Eventually we are up and we are live in the room and on the air. And I can’t hear Walter or Mike! We also have James Edwards on. And I bomb! Badly! I stink! It was the Cesspool’s 20th, Walter makes a triumphant return, James Edwards makes his first appearance and I stink up the joint!
The funniest moment James and Keith had a guest named Jason on. Jason and Keith were standing right next to each other sharing a microphone on a short cord. Keith had a thought grabbed the microphone from Jason and said: “Jason, this is Keith Alexander!” James and I looked at each other and we’re laughing our asses off!
The best part was just hanging out with James. We didn’t say much to each other. Didn’t have to. We text more than most teenage girls. James has done so much for me that I’m forever in his debt. The best thing he gave me was his friendship!
Here’s to another 20 years my friend! We’re going to do this longer than the “Rolling God Damn Stones!”
