America should say his name. Not George Floyd or Breonna Taylor. On February 12, 2011 a deranged piece of shit named Maksim Gelman who already murdered a number of people boarded a subway and attempted to enter the motorman’s cab claiming he was the police. Real cops were in the cab conducting a track inspection looking for Gelman! When he was unable to gain access to the motorman’s cab, he went to Lozito and told him that he was going to die that day and stabbed him under the eye! Lozito was not going to be a victim and fought with Gelman with his bare hands. With the NYPD only feet away.
Lozito saved countless lives that day. And he got no recognition. The cops in the motorman’s cab got awards! My opinion why later.
We had Lozito tell his story. And what a story it was, Joe was not bragging, exaggerating, or showing machismo. Hell; I pump out my chest when I tell people I know Walter Yurkiw and James Edwards! He wanted to continue to live that day. He wanted to see his wife and kids again, and continue to live a normal life. Walter and I already decided to have Joe back on our show and not talk about this incident.
As for why Lozito isn’t a household name is because Lozito’s background is not that sexy. Lozito is a working man with a wife and two kids whom he loves very much. Lozito did not know his victim. Lozitio wasn’t a lawman or a GI. Lozito was not down on his luck or homeless. Lozito was also not a person of color.
If they ever made a movie of Lozito’s story. It probably be “based on actual events.” Maksim Gelman would be a white supremacist who targeted people of color. Lozito would be portrayed as a person of color that recently lost his job and is facing eviction. The shit cops would look like Scoop stanton’s twin brothers.
