Last week we lost another guitar legend Leslie West. West was one of the founding members of the band Mountain. Mountain’s biggest hit was Mississippi Queen. I thought Mountain was a Southern Rock band, but lo and behold West was born in New York!
I absolutely hate the “Classic Rock” format on FM radio, because Mississippi Queen was not Mountain’s only great song. But, FM radio is going in the toilet.
I was able to see Eddie Van Halen play with Leslie West in 1995. Unfortunately we now lost both this year. Below is a clip of Van Halen and Leslie at Jones Beach. Please take the time to look at Mountain’s and West’s body of work. And if you do get a chance to see these legends, do see them before its too late. I saw the Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers Band, Van Halen, and the 21st Century Doors before someone had passed.
