40, 50 years ago a fella would graduate high school and either go to college, join the service or go down to a local and get a job. With just a high school diploma that young man would get married, have kids, buy a house, buy cars, go on vacations and retire. That family would have a small amount of debt. Remember?
Now all the jobs in the small towns are gone. People are moving to the big cities for work after going 100 to 200 grand in the red for a worthless education. In the big cities you usually share a house or apartment with roommates which is no fun when you need or want privacy. Then you move out on your own, own paying a fortune. Then you meet Mrs Wrong and get married. Now you get a place together. More money. Now here comes the kids. Great. You have to move out of that place in the city because the schools suck. 400, 500 thousand to buy a 4 bedroom townhouse. If you think you can beat the system by moving to the sticks, well your going to get up in the dark and come home in the dark. The house money is going for transportation, car payments and car repairs. Then your kids are getting ready to go to college and your 401k took a beating.
Take me. I made more bad decisions than I can count. I have bounced back. That’s America. But, I am in debt tens of thousands of dollars. I have racked up thousands of dollars on frivolous stuff like gasoline, groceries, and utility bills.
Thank God we have Donald Trump who’s bringing back those jobs and letting people like you and me keep more of our money. We still have a chance.
